Singapore welcomes the world as the result of the first “Summer Youth Olympic Games” was announced on 21st February 2008 at the Padang. This historical event had a total attendance of 12,000 spectators and guests from 65 schools, Team Singapore Athletes, officials from various Ministries, National Sports Associations, corporate sponsors, and the general public. Our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was the Guest of Honor.
The event started with performances from various secondary schools & tertiary institutions, followed with a march-pass by Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan and Mr. Teo Ser Luck flanked by Team Singapore Athletes, and students from the Singapore Sports School. The evening ended with a high after the President of the International Olympic Council announced the result for Singapore to host the first “Summer Youth Olympic Games” in 2010.
