
Singapore welcomes the world in 2008 to host the first “Summer Youth Olympic Games” on 21st February at the Padang. In 2009, on the 14th August, another historical event was organized for Singaporeans to countdown to the Opening Ceremony that will be held on 14th August 2010. It had a total attendance of about 10,000 spectators and guests from various schools, Team Singapore Athletes, officials from various Ministries, National Sports Associations, corporate sponsors, runners from Olympic Day run and the public at large.
Senior Minister S. Jayakumar was the Guest of Honor for the event, accompanied by Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Mrs Yu-Fu Yee Shoon, Mr. Teo Ser Luck and Mr. Mr Ng Ser Miang. The world’s first Youth Olympic Games clock was unveiled at the City Hall, and the event ended on a high note with a spectacular fireworks display, and a street party along St. Andrew’s Road.
